How to use a proxy on Windows 10

In most cases, your proxy will come with username and password or will be IP binded. In this guide we will cover how to use each type of proxy with Windows 10 default proxy settings.
Step 1 : Find the Windows 10 proxy settings using the search bar
If you do not find this first try, you can find the exact same location going into your windows settings -> network and internet -> proxy tab.
Step 2 : Check "Automatically detect settings" and "Use a proxy server" options
Step 3 : Complete the address and port options with your proxy IP address and port
Taking an example from catproxies.com : On a residential plan we targeted Germany and chose to use a static IP for 120 minutes. The resulted proxy looks like this :
The format generated will always be IP : PORT : USER : PASS
For more info on how to use residential proxies you can check out this guide : https://catproxies.com/Blog/how-to-use-residential-proxies-on-catproxies
ISP Proxies might come with digits instead of letters for the IP address field, but the procedure is exactly the same.
So in our case the IP Address is : residential-eu.catproxies.com
and the port is : 16666
Only these 2 settings are needed for now. Once you complete these 2 options in your windows settings you can save the settings.
Once you open a new browser now and try to go on any site you will be faced with this prompt :
You will have to complete the username and password for the generated proxy in these fields and click ok.
Important note : if your proxy came with IP binding and only IP:PORT then you can just click ok on this step.
Step 4 : If everything is fine you can check your new IP address now
The easiest way to check if your IP address has changed is to go on this site :

Step 5 : Errors and problems
Sometimes after closing the windows settings or going back on your proxy settings you might get this screen :
It is the exact same thing we did above, but most apps on windows might ask for username pass everytime you use them and most browsers could ask for these credentials every time you open them.
In some cases ( with chromium browsers in general ) you might not be faced with anything and the proxy will just not be detected. Normal browsers already have cookies enabled , browser cache and many other privacy settings that will block you from using a proxy properly , most probably.
Also, there might be times when windows or the browser itself can fail to detect the proxy itself for longer periods of time.
What is the easiest solution ?
Instead of making your life more complicated with browser extensions and instead of having less privacy or worse IPs with VPNs, you can use a Privacy Browser. Those are special browsers made to hide your fingerprint and details on any site and they work great with proxies. You can copy paste the full proxy and a good privacy browser will autodetect all the fields and also remember the proxy every time you open a webpage.
Good, popular, and also free ones we would recommend are : Dolphin Anty, Morelogin and AdsPower
